The cast is highly engaging, and nimbly darts in and out of rooms, up and down stairs, all the while maintaining a mysterious air about them so that you simply can’t resist trying to follow. And yet, it’s hard not to get swept into the chase. Even if you are quick enough to pursue a character that intrigues you, it’s pretty difficult to discern exactly who you’re following - that doesn’t really become clear until the very end, if you make it that long (you can stay inside the hotel for up to three hours). So Shakespeare is not really in focus here - in fact, you get only whiffs of plot. The slo-mo dinner party in the gigantic banquet room was simply too cool.Įach of these major scenes is acted in silence, or should I say performed dance-style or even lip-synched (I accidentally came upon a man perfectly voicing Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is?” in a nightclub. That coupled with the mash-up of various unrelated source material and the narrative structure not necessarily being linear can make it pretty difficult to follow.īut, to be sure, all of the high points of Shakespeare’s Macbeth are there. No plague can kill a great show. Obviously, the issue becomes that audience members have very little to go on in terms if identifying the characters, and practically no spoken dialogue to help them figure it out. ![]() Each quote correspond to specific scenes in Sleep No More that clearly outline the Narrative of Macbeth’s tragic demise. However, the souvenir program included a page that featured 8 or 10 representative quotes from the Shakespeare text. ![]() One complaint I often heard about Sleep No More from people who didn’t “get it” was that they didn’t see how Macbeth was included at all. I assume you have already found the answer from someone else, but just in case: Holy Cow! I have no idea how long this question has been sitting in my in-box, I have been in a major time of transition in my life, and I am no longer living in NY, so I keep The McKittrick Hotel, Sleep No More, and all the amazing people I met through them compartmentalized so the gigantic hole in my heart doesn’t feel so brutally conspicuous,
